Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone became a megahit thanks to its gritty, realistic neo‑Western drama. When Beth and Rip moved to their own property in Dutton Ranch, with Beaulah Jackson and the Ten Petal Ranch on their doorstep, the first episodes made it feel like more of the same: Rip finding a dead body and Beth clashing with Beaulah at a cattle auction suggested a sixth season under a different name.

But the trauma Beth, Rip and their adopted son Carter endure early on leaves the family low, and episode five takes the story in a different direction. Both Rip and Beth meet separately with Beaulah, effectively pitching what they can do for Ten Petal — Rip as the experienced foreman who can run a tight ship and repel threats, Beth as the strategist who can shore up a legacy ranch's finances.

Now employed by Beaulah, they are no longer primarily defending their own land; they become assets for someone else.
