Few sci-fi shows match The X-Files for longevity and influence, but Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment produced a series that operates on a much larger scale. Falling Skies ran for five seasons on TNT from 2011 to 2015, built a solid fanbase, and is now available on Prime Video in the U.S.

(and Netflix in some territories), making it easy to rediscover by binge-watchers. The story begins six months after a devastating alien invasion that knocked out the world’s power grid, destroyed most technology and militaries, and killed over 90% of the population, leaving roughly 700 million people scattered and vulnerable.

The invaders deploy mechanical attack drones called mechs, six-legged Skitters, and the mysterious Overlords or Espheni; their true motivations aren’t revealed until Season 4.
