Yaya Toure appointed Slovan Bratislava head coach on three-year deal
Yaya Toure has taken his first senior management job after signing a three-year contract to become head coach of Slovan Bratislava. The 43-year-old former midfielder, who starred for Barcelona and Manchester City, succeeds Vladimir Weiss, who has returned to manage the Slovakian national team for a second spell.
Toure said he was eager to get started and praised the club’s infrastructure, adding: “I’m very happy and excited; honestly, I can’t wait for us to get to work together on Monday. My predecessor deserves great respect for what he’s achieved with Slovan. I want to build on that while also bringing something new and unique of my own.” He also stressed his desire to “play dominant soccer, win games, and control matches” and that the most important assessment will come once he sees players in training.
His interest in the role grew after watching Slovan face his former club in the Champions League.
