Our family’s Saturday: ‘Chilled weekends are fine in my book’
I'm an early riser by default, up at 5.30am whatever the day. I start with hot water and lemon (closely followed by a large coffee), then try to meditate or do some gratitude journalling before the weekend noise begins. As a neurodivergent family — I have ADHD and my daughter is autistic — routine and planning help, especially for her 9am dance class that runs for 3.5 hours; I make her a seriously energy‑fuelling breakfast and we load snacks into the car for the 15‑minute drive.
My Saturday morning me‑time is precious. If the weather’s good I’ll leave the car and go for a 30‑minute run through nearby fields, blasting jungle or garage music on my headphones. My regular treat is a breakfast I haven’t cooked — usually eggs hollandaise and a latte at the local farm cafe — and sometimes I nip to the shops for bits we need, or sit in the car and listen to a podcast if I’m early.
