Supergirl writer seemingly misinterpreted the Woman of Tomorrow comic ending
Supergirl screenwriter Ana Nogueira appears to have misread the ending of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, producing a different fate for a key villain in the new film. Nogueira said the comic "ends with Ruthye killing him, but in the far, far future," and that the movie team couldn’t pull off that time jump, so they reshaped the climax to protect Ruthye’s innocence while still delivering justice.
The comic’s actual final page, however, shows Ruthye striking Krem with her cane and leaving him alive. Woman of Tomorrow writer Tom King clarified on a 2024 podcast: "This is not supposed to be ambiguous. He’s supposed to be alive at the end. That’s why he grabs his head.
Ruthye does not forgive him, still f***ing hates him, bops him on the head, and walks away." The film is adapted from the eight-issue limited series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and is in theaters now.
