Supergirl’s Opening Weekend Trails Morbius and Joker

Supergirl arrived in theaters last week. Critics praised Milly Alcock’s performance, but the film received mixed reviews and opened at number two domestically with $38 million, well behind Toy Story 5’s $70 million in its second week. That puts its debut below the opening of any Marvel Cinematic Universe movie and even under Morbius, which premiered to $39 million in 2022, as well as Joker: Folie à Deux’s $40 million debut.

Is Supergirl as bad as those films? Probably not. It has questionable decisions and pacing, but it wouldn’t necessarily belong on a list of the worst superhero movies.
