At the Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft announced a partial return to console exclusives: Gears of War: E-Day and inXile's Clockwork Revolution will not come to PlayStation 5 or Nintendo Switch 2. The company insisted these are not timed exclusives and said PC versions will be available, while games already announced for multiplatform release—such as Forza Horizon 6, Halo: Campaign Evolved and Fable—will stick to their plans.

New Xbox CEO Asha Sharma framed the move as offering “something that was made for Xbox,” but chief content officer Matt Booty made clear that big multiplayer and live-service titles will remain multiplatform. Booty also stressed Microsoft will honor prior platform promises and decide on a case-by-case basis, effectively sidelining exclusivity for franchises like Call of Duty and Blizzard’s offerings, and arguably parts of the Halo and Forza series.

The choice of E-Day and Clockwork Revolution highlights how constrained the company’s options are.
