Valve's Steam Machine and Steam Frame to ship this summer
Valve confirmed in a blog post that the Steam Machine and the Steam Frame will ship this summer. The company also said its “Verified” program, which checks whether games run properly on the Steam Deck, will be applied to both new devices. “The goal is to help customers understand the out-of-box experience for a given title on these new devices, and how smoothly a game will run with no user work or configuration required,” the blog post describes.
The Steam Machine is a PC running SteamOS designed for the living room, with menus navigable by controller. Valve says the system is six times more powerful than the Steam Deck and will use the same software as the company’s handheld. The Steam Frame is a VR headset intended to stream games from a PC while also supporting local play via SteamOS without being connected to anything.
Just last week, Valve suddenly increased the price of the Steam Deck by a whopping $240 to $300, depending on the model, bringing the Deck’s minimum price to $789.
