Tom Hardy Film Loses Domestic Box Office Lead to The Mandalorian & Grogu
Mad Max: Fury Road, one of Tom Hardy's most acclaimed films, has been overtaken domestically at the box office by The Mandalorian & Grogu. Fury Road earned $153 million domestically and $380 million worldwide, won six Oscars and holds a 97% Rotten Tomatoes rating.
The Mandalorian & Grogu has reached $156 million in domestic takings. Directed by Jon Favreau and released on May 20, The Mandalorian & Grogu is the first time a Star Wars character from a Disney+ series has headlined a feature film. After three seasons on Disney+, Din Djarin and Grogu travel to theaters in a story that follows the pair on a New Republic mercenary mission to rescue Rotta the Hutt, navigating the franchise’s underworld and surviving Imperial loyalists.
Although it has topped Fury Road’s domestic total, the new film trails in worldwide revenue with $294 million and has drawn mixed responses, holding a 62% critics score and an 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
