Star Wars: Galactic Racer aims for a post-war story rooted in racing history
Fuse Games’ debut, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, treats racing as part of the wider political tapestry of a war-torn galaxy rather than just dropping familiar characters into podracers. The studio, founded by veterans of the Burnout series, set out to honour classic Star Wars racers while evolving the formula beyond Nintendo 64 nostalgia, producing the first Star Wars racing game in 20 years.
Races feature multiple vehicle classes with real-world counterparts: Skim Speeders that feel like low-flying planes, Speeder Bikes that echo motorcycles, and podracers that act as fragile F1‑style machines. The designs adopt a found, hot-rod aesthetic—vehicles cobbled from scrap with parts flying off during slow-motion crashes—drawing directly from George Lucas’s interest in hot rod culture.
The narrative frames racing as a post-war boom.
