Jane the Virgin deliberately leans into melodrama, growing wilder across its five seasons, and that is precisely what makes it so entertaining. Released in 2014, the show uses over-the-top stories to create a borderline ridiculous series that invites nonstop viewing.

The premise begins with Jane (Gina Rodriguez), a 23-year-old who is accidentally artificially inseminated at a routine check-up, a mistake that upends her life. The error complicates her relationship with boyfriend Michael (Brett Dier) and places her between Rafael (Justin Baldoni), the father and her boss, and Rafael's scheming wife, Petra (Yael Grobglas); as feelings develop, Jane faces an increasingly difficult choice.

At the center of the chaos is a loving family: Jane, her mother Xiomara (Andrea Navedo) and grandmother Alba (Ivonne Coll) clash over values yet remain supportive, and her estranged father Rogelio (Jaime Camil) enters the picture as she pursues her dream of becoming a writer.
