Liberal frontbencher proposes party ‘rebrand’ after polling fall
Liberal frontbencher Melissa McIntosh said the party might need a “rebrand” to win back voters as the Coalition hit a new historic polling low. Her remarks followed opposition leader Angus Taylor's criticism that the Morrison government had “breached trust” during the Covid pandemic by supporting “big government”; Taylor told 2GB, “You can’t turn around a tanker in a few months.” In Monday’s Newspoll the Coalition’s primary vote fell to 17%, behind Labor (33%) and One Nation (29%), and barely above the Greens (13%); a Redbridge poll also showed rising support for Labor and dips for One Nation and the Coalition.
More than four months after Sussan Ley was rolled, Taylor’s leadership has not halted the slide and some Liberal MPs have begun quietly discussing concerns about the party’s direction.
