Season 3 patch veers Fellowship from MMO roots toward action RPG loot
The developers of co-op RPG Fellowship split season 3 patch notes across five separate Steam news posts, a sign of just how much the update changes. The new season veers away from its MMO-inspired roots to lean harder into being an action RPG with loot and character builds, a shift that didn't immediately go over well.
Chief Rebel removed the old loot system after finding players would collect the best gear and stop thinking about it. The revised item design aims to keep "there's always something cool that can happen," with things like gloves that supercharge abilities, necklaces carrying random defensive bonuses for every hero, and a Tempering system to boost stats on coveted items.
The team says it's "hyper aware" of avoiding grind, so season 3 adds crafting and salvage options so players can convert runs that yield little into progress. The update also reintroduces challenge after the last season felt too easy: dungeons have been tuned up and a new pinnacle dungeon features three brutal bosses.
