Robert Kirkman halted Invincible movie plans after calling the script horrible
Before Invincible became a series, creator Robert Kirkman had planned a movie version but said he personally stopped it because the script was 'absolutely horrible'. Speaking at the Annecy Animation Festival, he called it 'just embarrassing, just bad' and described the experience as a lesson: 'you fight for the opportunity to write your screenplay and then you personally keep the project from happening because you did that.' It has since found success on Prime Video, becoming one of the platform's most popular shows.
The creators are currently working on season 5, and season 6 has been announced, with The Boys star Jack Quaid joining the cast. The idea of a live-action movie remains under consideration. Speaking earlier in 2026, Kirkman said the movie is still in development but there are no new updates: 'It's definitely a long process and it's something that hopefully will come together sooner rather than later.
But our focus right now is on the show and making sure that the show is all it can be.
