SanDisk has launched the Optimus GX PRO 850P NVMe, the PlayStation 5's officially licensed storage option formerly sold under the WD_Black label. The company lists the drives at 1 TB — $379.99, 2 TB — $759.99, 4 TB — $1,499.99 and 8 TB — $2,959.99, and its product page suggests each model is shown at a discounted price.

SanDisk also shows a full price for the 8 TB drive of $3,699.99. In 2025, that same SSD would have cost $639.99, PCPartPicker shows. Every storage option has risen by well over 100 percent; the entry-level SSD now costs about half the price of a PS5, while the highest-capacity option exceeds the cost of buying multiple consoles.

Some owners report a 2 TB upgrade speeds up load times and reduces the need to delete games. The writer notes paying $249.99 for an internal PS5 SSD in 2022 and says Digital Edition owners with only 825 GB face a tougher pricing calculus.
