Marcia Lucas, the first wife of Star Wars creator George Lucas, has died at the age of 80 after a battle with metastatic cancer, her family's attorney confirmed. Her family said she will be remembered as a brilliant storyteller, a trailblazer for women in film, a loving mother and grandmother, a generous host, and a loyal friend whose humor and sparkle filled every room.

They added that her work was known for its emotional intelligence, rhythm, and humanity, and that she had a rare ability to find the truth of a scene and bring heart, momentum, and clarity to the screen. Described as George Lucas's "secret weapon," the two met while working with film editor Verna Field, married in 1969 and were together for 14 years before divorcing in 1983.

She edited two of the original three Star Wars films, serving as editor on 1977's Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope and 1983's Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi, and worked in an uncredited role on the documentary Filmmaker.
