Why the lubed Asus ROG Strix Scope II RX has been my daily driver for two years
I've tested many mechanical keyboards since 2013, starting with the Corsair K70 Vengeance and Cherry MX Reds, but nothing has come close to the Asus ROG Strix Scope II RX. I reviewed it in 2024 and was struck by the build quality, the switches, the sound dampening, and the way Asus had pre-lubed nearly everything.
It still looks as clean as the day I set it up; I configured the RGB once two years ago and haven't changed it since. At retail it averaged $120, and today Newegg lists it at $80 with a 33% discount using the promo code FTTF283. I also tried Corsair's Makr Pro 75 line, a similarly dampened, pre-lubed keyboard with Hall effect switches, and while I enjoyed it I kept gravitating back to the Scope II.
The Makr now sits on a shelf in its box, whereas the slightly dusty ROG Strix Scope II remains my go-to. The build feels exceptional without being overly heavy, and it avoids the unnecessary extras some manufacturers pile on.
