Kylian Mbappe 'incredibly proud' after becoming France's top scorer
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has expressed pride after surpassing Olivier Giroud to become the France national team’s all-time leading scorer. He reached the milestone with a brace in a 3-1 win over Senegal at the MetLife Stadium, taking his international total to 58 goals at 27 years old.
To mark the occasion his team-mates presented him with a commemorative jersey bearing the number 58. Mbappe reflected on the achievement in an Instagram post, writing: "58 goals. A great pride to be able to become the top scorer in the history of our national team, a country that has seen so many great players pass through.
Thank you to all my team-mates, the staff and the FFF for the eternal trust since the first day. And thank you to you for your support. We continue, there is still a lot to do..." With the national record secured, Mbappe is already targeting another landmark: the World Cup goals record held by Lionel Messi and Miroslav Klose at 16.
