Netflix Confirms Cancellation of The Boroughs After One Season
Deadline has confirmed that Netflix canceled The Boroughs after one season.
The series was created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, with Matt and Ross Duffer serving as executive producers. Stranger Things, created by the Duffer brothers, debuted in 2016 and concluded after five seasons on Dec. 31, 2025; its success allowed them to develop other projects and the Duffers’ influence was felt on The Boroughs.
Premiering on May 21, 2026, The Boroughs is set in a desert retirement community where newcomer Sam Cooper uncovers a terrifying secret and teams with underestimated residents to investigate a deadly force. Showrunners were Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews; directors included Augustine Frizzell and Kyle Patrick Alvarez, and writers included James Schamus, Jose Molina, Julie Siege and Tom Hanada. The series starred Sam Renee.
