John Terry says England squad includes 11 players not up to World Cup standard
John Terry delivered a scathing assessment of Thomas Tuchel's England squad, saying nearly half of the 26-man group is not up to the standard required to win the World Cup. He criticised Tuchel for leaving several experienced stars at home ahead of the tournament in North America.
Terry suggested only around 13 to 15 players in the squad can play if England are to win, and that the rest will not push the starting XI. The whole group is now together in the States after four Arsenal players were given extra time off, with the 26-man squad locked in and ready to go.
He highlighted the high-profile omissions of Phil Foden and Cole Palmer and pointed to the presence of tournament newcomers such as Dan Burn and Nico O'Reilly, warning the side could be overly reliant on a small core. Terry said he admires Tuchel's willingness to make big decisions but disagrees with several of them.
