James Gunn’s DCU Confirmed to Continue After Paramount Buyout
The fate of James Gunn's DCU appears settled amid Paramount's planned buyout of Warner Bros. The question of what would happen to the newly emerging Gunn-fronted franchise, with several projects in the works, was answered during the debut of Supergirl. While the HBO Max animated series Creature Commandos marked the official start following the cancellation of the DCEU, last year's Superman provided a more vivid demonstration of the relaunch.
That reboot earned solid reviews — 83% from critics and 90% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes — and was largely seen as a successful restart, helped by David Corenswet in the lead role. Winther said Paramount Skydance chairman and CEO David Ellison has met with DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran and 'is pretty open' to what the DCU is doing. Winther added that Ellison came to Trilith and Atlanta, they showed him everything, and discussions are ongoing.
