I Want Joker To Finally Confess His Feelings For Batman In His New Animated Show
For decades comics, films and animated shows have portrayed Batman and the Joker as inseparable; a new DC animated series may be the first to put that bond into words. Joker: Laugh Riot, a joint production from SOLA Animation Japan, Warner Animation and DC Studios, follows the Joker as he dons the mantle of detective to hunt down whoever killed Batman.
As he shifts from criminal to vigilante and seeks his own form of justice, he begins to wonder who he is without Batman. The writer does not see the pair as a conventional romantic couple; instead their bond can be read as other forms of love that don’t involve romance, sex, or even affection—more like the compulsive, resentful loyalty one might feel toward a toxic, narcissistic parent: "I hate you, but I’ll always pick up when you call, and I’ll be sad when you die." The show's reveal came with a slate of other DC animated projects, including an adaptation of the Absolute Batman run and a Krypto the Superdog series that follows the earlier Superman and Supergirl films.
