Fashion designer Kelly Nishimoto said on her Hairbrush News podcast that a few A-listers have tried to obtain her clothes without paying. “I’ve had a few celebrities that just don’t like to pay,” she said, naming Paula Abdul and Kate Hudson as examples. Nishimoto said Abdul’s stylist pulled several pieces for the singer to wear on American Idol and then asked to keep three items.

She offered to send an invoice, but the stylist replied that Abdul was hoping the pieces would be gifted. Nishimoto said she was struggling to cover rent and payroll and suggested Abdul pay for the pieces plus an additional amount to cover dry cleaning; she said the stylist returned the clothes when it became clear they would not be given away.

She described a separate exchange in which Hudson’s stylist requested a free pair of her leggings, noting that Hudson had recently launched an activewear brand, Fabletics. Nishimoto said she offered to invoice for any items the actress wanted but never heard back.
