Gabriel Magalhaes says penalty miss was 'painful' but proud of Arsenal
Gabriel Magalhaes has spoken about the "painful" experience of missing the decisive penalty in Arsenal's Champions League final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest, where his effort flew over the bar and handed PSG a second consecutive European crown. Despite the miss, the Brazilian defender said he remains defiant and proud of the Gunners' historic season.
Arsenal, newly crowned Premier League champions, took a dream start when Kai Havertz scored after six minutes. PSG levelled when Ousmane Dembele converted a second-half penalty, and the match went to a shootout. David Raya saved from Nuno Mendes but Eberechi Eze missed wide before Gabriel stepped up and saw his wayward strike sail over the crossbar, sparking wild celebrations for Luis Enrique's side.
On social media he expressed deep disappointment while praising the campaign: "It’s painful, but I’m proud of this team and everything we achieved together this season. Thank you to our incredible fans for your support every step of the way.
