‘Widow’s Bay’ Season 1 ended with a wild plot twist
The Season 1 finale of Apple’s horror comedy Widow’s Bay, “We Hope You Enjoyed Your Time!,” closed with a startling revelation. Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) twice tried to kill Ruth (K Callan) — slipping powder into her tea and nearly smothering her with a pillow — only for her to confess she was secretly his late wife’s mother.
That made Evan (Kingston Rumi Southwick) Ruth’s grandson and, crucially, the last living descendant of island founder Richard Warren (Hamish Linklater). As a storm battered the island, the town took refuge in a shelter run by Patricia (Kate O’Flynn) and Wyck (Stephen Root), where panic erupted after food supplies turned out to be moldy.
Sheriff Bechir (Kevin Carroll), whose wife went into early labor, arrived at Ruth’s house with a gun, saying he would not “damn my child.” Bechir shot Ruth after telling Tom that he believed Tom “wouldn’t” do it; Tom then admitted Ruth wasn’t the last living descendant and was held at gunpoint as he was pressed to name who was.
