Death Stranding film promises action but restrained violence, director says
Michael Sarnoski, director of The Death of Robin Hood, is preparing to helm the first live-action Death Stranding movie. He says the script isn’t very violent, though it contains a lot of action and excitement, and that the brutal world of Death Stranding requires a visceral sense that “this could be it.” Sarnoski’s previous film stars Hugh Jackman as an aging Robin Hood whose life of hyperviolent crime includes jaws being ripped in half, arrows through eye sockets, slashed throats and widespread fires.
The second half follows Robin as he heals at a priory and is forced to contemplate the life he has lived. On Death Stranding, Sarnoski says the violence and action will be tied to exploration and understanding the world more deeply. There will be some violence, he adds, “but you’re not gonna see a lot of jaws getting ripped off in Death Stranding.” The live-action Death Stranding was announced in 2023.
