De Fougerolles shines as Larin’s drought deepens in Canada friendlies
Canada closed its pre-World Cup preparations with a 2-0 win over World Cup-bound Uzbekistan in Edmonton and a 1-1 draw with Ireland at a sold-out Stade Saputo in Montréal. Manager Jesse Marsch urged a positive outlook, stressing the squad is committed, fit and ready while acknowledging the team must find the goals that have so far eluded them.
Luc de Fougerolles emerged as a clear plus, pushing into contention for a start after strong displays across 150 minutes in the two friendlies. With Moïse Bombito still working his way back from a broken leg, de Fougerolles showed composure, good positioning and the ball skills Marsch wants from his centre backs.
By contrast, Derek Cornelius’ lack of regular club minutes was evident: he played the full match against Ireland but produced a handful of costly lapses and a collision that led to a clear chance for Uzbekistan.
