A24's horror film Backrooms opened to $81,456,295 domestically over the May 29–31 weekend, marking the fourth-highest opening weekend of the year. Directed by Kane Parsons and led by Chiwetel Ejiofor, the film follows a struggling, alcoholic furniture-store owner who finds a portal in his basement that leads to an endless maze of liminal spaces and imperfect clones.

Curry Barker's Obsession finished second with $26,400,000 in its third weekend, lifting its total to about $148,000,000 on a production budget under $1 million. The Mandalorian and Grogu placed third after debuting the previous week, posting roughly $25,000,000 for the weekend and bringing its domestic haul to $137.2 million and worldwide to $246.5 million.

Antoine Fuqua's Michael remained strong in fourth, adding $11,700,000 in its sixth weekend and reaching $846,278,000 globally. Newcomer The Breadwinner opened in fifth with $7,500,000.
