An autopsy and toxicology report shows Bobby J. Brown, 62, died in February of diffuse thermal injury and smoke inhalation. The report found he had been consuming alcoholic beverages prior to his death and that no drugs were detected. His blood measured 71 percent carbon monoxide postmortem.

First responders arrived to find the Maryland barn mostly engulfed with Brown trapped inside. He suffered fourth-degree burns, thermal fractures of the ankles and had the vast majority of his hair singed off. Skin was absent from the left chest, a portion of the left arm and portions of the lower extremities.

A 911 call from his widow, Arlene, said he was trying to jump-start the Cadillac in the barn before the fire. Brown was best known for playing Officer Bobby Brown on The Wire, and his last acting role was in Mailman in 2023. He is survived by his wife Arlene and two adult children.
