On June 9, during Nintendo’s Summer Game Fest–adjacent Direct, the company released a very short teaser for its remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, due on Switch 2 in 2026. The clip offered only a few seconds of Link’s new appearance. Those few seconds were enough to spark a wave of online jokes comparing the remake’s more realistic look to fan-made Unreal Engine remakes of Zelda games.

Those fan videos have become a meme—often criticized for lacking the original’s charm, yet routinely attracting comments saying Nintendo should “hire this man.” Many observers joked that Nintendo must have taken that advice, noting similarities to those fan projects.

Others pointed to the company’s upcoming Star Fox remake and referenced the “Focus Up, M” meme as part of the conversation. It’s worth noting the footage was brief, and some people said the game could look quite different when more is shown later this year.
