Zahara files to legally drop Pitt surname
Zahara Jolie, 21, has filed to legally change her name to Zahara Jolie, removing Jolie-Pitt from her surname. She has a court hearing scheduled for Sept. 28 on the motion. She first dropped Pitt from her surname during her 2023 Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority induction at Spelman College, introducing herself as "Zahara Marley Jolie." She also did not use her father’s last name when she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology in May.
Several of her siblings have taken similar steps: Shiloh legally dropped the surname after turning 18 in May 2024, and Maddox filed the same request in May 2026, citing reasons described as "personal." Vivienne did not use Pitt when she helped produce the Broadway play The Outsiders in 2024, and the actor’s name was removed from the credits of Angelina Jolie’s 2025 film Couture, on which he served as an assistant director.
The former couple began dating in 2005, married in 2014 and separated in 2016, with their contentious divorce settled in December 2024.
