Adults across the United States have been staking out Pokémon trading card vending machines, buying up inventory that leaves kids empty-handed. YouTuber YoungFika ran into such buyers during a Sunday morning livestream in late May; the early-morning stream lasted about three and a half hours as he checked local Los Angeles shops for cards.

He found people hovering near every vending machine. In one stop a person remained in a car and used shopping carts to block parking, a move that kept YoungFika from parking. "I can't believe how shameless people are," he said. The confrontation escalated in Compton when a handful of men complained as he approached a machine.

One shouted, "You're fucking it up," apparently upset that buying a pack disrupted a vending-machine exploit. YoungFika replied, "It's a kids game, c'mon, chill," and then sought out a store manager. After returning to his car he was taunted and threatened — "Get the fuck out of here," and "I'll kick the shit out of you" — before deciding not to engage.
