Yoshi-P has "many game ideas", one that "combines AI and servers"
Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida has been making games for almost 30 years and has spent more than a decade shaping Final Fantasy 14. The 52-year-old says he has "no intention of retiring any time soon, and will continue to run at full speed." He says many game ideas remain stored as project proposals, and one he mentions concerns "a game design that combines AI and servers." He does not specify whether that would involve generative AI.
Yoshida framed the idea as a response to industry pressures, noting "It's a tough world out there," and citing soaring development costs, accelerating technological advancements, decreasing consumer disposable time, and rapid market changes. "Though that's precisely why I feel like it's one of the most exciting times for the industry," he added.
Square Enix has already experimented with AI in MMOs: Dragon Quest 10 added an Oshaberi Slimey powered by Google's Gemini AI model, which did not go down well with players.
