The Sheridan-verse keeps expanding: Yellowstone has spun off 1883 and 1923 and now includes Marshals and Dutton Ranch, all of which have drawn large audiences. Marshals tops CBS ratings, and Dutton Ranch has continued to perform strongly, following Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler.

Although Taylor Sheridan is set to leave Paramount for NBCUniversal in 2028, production units on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles are keeping the shows moving. Madd Webb Mitovich says 1944, the follow-up to 1923, is "still in development at Paramount." Story possibilities for 1944 range widely.

The series could follow Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) further into his life, trace John Dutton’s direct line — including John Dutton II, son of Spencer and Alex and father to Kevin Costner’s John Dutton, who would be 21 in 1944 and possibly serving in World War II — or track Elizabeth Dutton after her husband’s death as she returns to Boston and is later drawn back west.
