Yasin Ayari scores twice as Sweden rout Tunisia
Graham Potter’s tenure in charge of Sweden continued to gather momentum as his side swept aside an error-prone Tunisia. The former left-back from York City has become an unlikely figure of adulation in Sweden after guiding a team that struggled in qualifying into a convincing World Cup performance.
Sweden’s route to the finals came after a poor qualifying campaign, the dismissal of Jon Dahl Tomasson and a Nations League play-off run that saw them beat Ukraine and Poland; Potter called the latter victory his best night in football. Sunday’s game was played in sticky, 27C conditions under low clouds, with hydration breaks booed by some fans before an accordion player in a Stetson lightened the mood.
Tunisia arrived with a new coach, Sabri Lamouchi, who named 11 players not involved in recent tournaments, five of whom started.
