Xbox delays Fable to February 2027 but says the game is 'in great shape'
Xbox has pushed the release of Fable to February 2027, moving the RPG from a previously planned fall 2026 launch. The company said the shift will give the game a dedicated moment and promised a major new look at Fable and its broader lineup at the XBOX Games Showcase on June 7.
Playground Games is ‘‘doing really well on Fable,’’ Matt Booty said on a podcast, adding that ‘‘the game is in great shape. The team feels really good.’’ He explained the move aims to give Fable ‘‘a window all to its own’’ rather than competing for attention during the holiday season.
The delay had been rumored, despite Xbox having reiterated plans to launch the title this year. The announcement also highlights several major releases scheduled for 2026, from Gears of War: E-Day to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and notes that GTA 6 remains a major draw—analyst Mat Piscatella reports 34.7% of US console and PC players intend to buy the next Grand Theft Auto game versus 5.5% who intend to buy Fable.
