A report citing three anonymous sources says new CEO Asha Sharma aims to speed up the delivery of hit games by cutting lower-performing studios and projects and shifting resources toward major franchises such as Halo, Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. The plan would keep the overall game development budget flat for the 2027 fiscal year while redeploying funds from some areas to accelerate others.

It has been five years since Halo Infinite, this year’s Halo: Campaigned Evolved is only a single-player remake of the first game, The Elder Scrolls VI still appears years away, and Fallout 5 is expected even later. The report suggests Sharma also wants to invest more in Minecraft, which is trailing Roblox.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood have signed off on the proposed redeployment for the fiscal year beginning in July, but they have not ruled out restructuring the business entirely — options include making Xbox a wholly owned subsidiary, forming a joint venture, or selling it.
