X‑Men don't exist in Marvel's Wolverine, and Spider‑Man won't appear
Despite showing Jean Grey and Mystique, Marvel's Wolverine centers solely on Logan rather than a team of X‑Men. Marcus Smith, the game's creative director, said the developers wanted to build a Wolverine story in a world where mutants aren't well established. Smith clarified that mutants are known and actively hunted, but they are not the focal point.
The team has already shown characters such as Mystique, Sabretooth and Jean Grey, and said players can expect additional Marvel figures from across the canon to appear in the game. The X‑Men as a team or concept have not been established in the game's timeline, so any mutant appearances do not amount to an X‑Men ensemble.
The game takes place in the 1048 Marvel Universe, the Insomniac video game universe, which is the same world as the studio's New York setting. However, the developers confirmed there will be no crossover with Insomniac’s Spider‑Man title.
