Wolves sack Rob Edwards after Trippier and Jimenez signings
Wolves have sacked head coach Rob Edwards despite completing high-profile deals for Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez. The decision comes as the Midlands club prepares for life in the Championship after a campaign that ended an eight-year stay in the top flight.
Edwards was appointed last November to steady a struggling side after replacing Vitor Pereira. Although there were flashes of improvement, he could not prevent relegation in April and the board opted for a change before pre-season despite Edwards having signed a long-term contract.
The club moved quickly to identify a replacement, returning to the Portuguese market. Negotiations with Gil Vicente manager Cesar Peixoto progressed rapidly, with an agreement thought to be finalised after Peixoto led Gil Vicente to sixth in the Primeira Liga. The new manager inherits a squad bolstered by established internationals such as Trippier and Jimenez and must blend those additions with the existing core.
