"It's been a long, long, long eight years," the trailer opened during Summer Game Fest, underlining the lengthy wait since the game's 2019 announcement. The reveal sets a 2027 release window for The Wolf Among Us 2 after a turbulent development cycle. The original Wolf Among Us was released episodically across 2013 and 2014 and told an original story set in the world of the comic series Fables.

Players explored a New York neighbourhood of folktale figures — including Snow White, Cinderella and the Big Bad Wolf, here known as Bigby Wolf — solving mysteries through the choice-based gameplay Telltale was known for. After Telltale closed in 2018 the sequel's fate was uncertain; the studio was later revived by LCG entertainment and the sequel was announced in 2019.

Development involved Dispatch developer AdHoc Studio until 2023, and the project was delayed out of 2023 indefinitely. The new trailer shows old and new faces, with Bigby brooding over a conspiracy board, and hints at six homicides — each case a husband and wife found shredded.
