Winners and losers from Canada's World Cup squad

A 26-player roster for Canada’s World Cup was unveiled in a televised show in Charlotte, complete with a banner from the CN Tower and no leaks. Head coach Marsch brings a mostly healthy group; Alphonso Davies is on the roster but is unlikely to play the opener, and Marsch plans to split goalkeeping minutes between Dayne St.

Clair and Maxime Crépeau against Uzbekistan. Several injury doubts have been resolved. Promise David produced a remarkable recovery from a January hip surgery scare to make the squad, while other concerns such as Alfie Jones, Moïse Bombito and Ali Ahmed have also progressed.

Davies remains the biggest worry after a hamstring strain in the UEFA Champions League semifinal, though Marsch said he will play at some point during the tournament. Ralph Priso’s hamstring setback cost him a starting spot despite strong club form; he will travel for the friendlies as cover but is effectively on the outside looking in.
