Apple spent much of its WWDC keynote on Monday touting Siri AI, a version of the voice assistant meant to act more like other AI-powered chatbots. That could be good news for users, but what you can use depends on your device. The new Siri is designed to be more conversational, understand what’s on the screen and on your device, and run tasks across apps and files.

You can customize Siri’s expressiveness and pace and use a more accurate dictation that adds punctuation and formatting. Siri will use both on-device and cloud models; the on-device models are AFM 3 Core and AFM 3 Core Advanced, and only devices that support the Advanced model can use the voice customizations and improved dictation.

To use Siri AI with the on-device AFM 3 Core Advanced model you’ll need one of the following: iPhone: iPhone 17 Pro or Pro Max, iPhone Air; iPad: iPad models with M4 and later, and at least 12GB of memory; Mac: Mac models with M3 and later, and at least 12GB of memory; Apple Vision Pro: Apple Vision Pro (M5).
