Will Mallory Swanson return as USWNT seek response in rematch vs Brazil
The USWNT meet Brazil again on Tuesday at Neo Química Arena in São Paulo after a 2-1 defeat on Saturday in front of a rowdy crowd of more than 31,000. Sophia Wilson gave the Americans the ideal start with a second‑minute goal, but Brazil struck in the 11th and 14th minutes to secure their second straight win over the U.S.
and fifth overall. There were positives: early pressure, Wilson’s sharpness in her first appearance since returning from maternity leave, and Trinity Rodman starting as Hayes reintegrates key attacking pieces. There were also clear problems — a disjointed midfield and a backline of Tierna Davidson, Emily Sonnett, Emily Fox and Gisele Thompson struggled to handle Brazil’s relentless frontline — and Rodman left the game soon after collecting a yellow.
Mallory Swanson did not play as Hayes continues to manage her return with the Chicago Stars, so the full “Triple Espresso” reunion must wait.
