Prince Harry was omitted from the guest list for his cousin Peter Phillips’ upcoming wedding to Harriet Sperling after what royal commentator Emily Nash described as a cooling-off between the two men. Nash said Phillips “hadn’t spoken to Harry for the last few years,” and suggested the groom’s loyalties lie with Prince William.

Nash added that Phillips is “very close” to the Prince of Wales and has been “[a] very loyal; he’s very protective,” serving as a sounding board and even a peacemaker between the brothers at Prince Philip’s funeral. She also pointed to Harry’s memoir Spare and his and Meghan Markle’s Netflix docuseries as factors in the family tensions.

Calling the decision “smart,” Nash said leaving Harry off the list avoided making the wedding a focal point of those disputes. William and Kate are expected to attend the June 6 ceremony, and Nash said King Charles III will likely appear; she also expects the Wales children, Zara Tindall and her husband Mike, and Harriet’s daughter Georgina to be present.
