Throughout 2026, Mets players will wear a small black patch on their uniform sleeve, just above the round Mets logo, bearing the single word "Davey." The patch honors Davey Johnson, a Mets manager and Hall of Famer who died in September 2025 at age 82. The team announced the entire 2026 season would serve as a tribute to Johnson, who managed the Mets from 1984 to 1990 and led the club to its most recent World Series title in 1986 with players such as Darryl Strawberry and Mookie Wilson.

Johnson began his major league career as a player, signing with the Baltimore Orioles in 1965. Aside from one season in Japan, he spent 13 years in MLB with the Orioles, Braves, Phillies and Cubs; his time in Baltimore included World Series titles in 1966 and 1970, three Gold Glove awards and four All-Star selections.

After leaving the Mets in 1990, Johnson managed the Reds, Orioles, Dodgers and Nationals and led teams in international competition.
