Why Kingdom Hearts 4 missed Summer Game Fest 2026
Four years after its reveal, Kingdom Hearts 4 remained absent from Summer Game Fest 2026, extending a long stretch without meaningful updates. The recent announcement of a title and a spring 2027 release window for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation helps explain why Sora hasn’t shown up yet.
Both projects sit inside Square Enix’s Creative Business Unit 1, which handles the mainline Final Fantasy games, the Final Fantasy 7 remakes, and Kingdom Hearts. With Revelation now the studio’s flagship to promote over the coming year, it makes sense that many development and marketing resources would focus on that project.
Tetsuya Nomura’s involvement in both franchises is a key factor. He directed the first FF7 Remake and served as creative director on FF7 Rebirth and Revelation, so his time is split between Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.
