Why Joy Behar is absent from 'The View'
Joy Behar is stepping away from the “Hot Topics” table — temporarily. Though she typically doesn’t appear on Monday episodes of The View, the June 1 airing marked the beginning of her two-week absence. “There’s been a lot of media attention on me lately because I’m taking off the next two weeks,” Behar said on the May 29 episode.
“They’re calling it a hiatus. It’s not a hiatus.” She said the break is for work: playwriting in Paris and bringing her play My First Ex-Husband to the West End. “I’m working,” she explained, noting she’d be in “various cafes” in Paris and then travel to London to stage the play, with Jackie Hoffman and two British actors joining the cast.
The show previously debuted Off-Broadway in February 2025. Executive producer Brian Teta said “various folks” will fill in during her absence, including Sheryl Underwood and Kara Swisher, and that Whoopi Goldberg is set to be on Fridays. Teta called Swisher “very funny and smart” and quipped, “Whoopi is going to be here on Fridays.
