White House posts GTA 6 meme as Reflecting Pool turns green

On June 18, the official White House Twitter account posted an image spoofing the newly revealed Grand Theft Auto 6 cover art. The image, likely created with generative AI, used the pink and purple hues from the official artwork and featured four images of President Donald Trump with his slogan “Make America Great Again” rendered in the classic GTA font.

The post’s caption read, “We really saved America before GTA 6,” and the helicopter placement on the mock cover was noticeably off. Replies quickly filled with racist remarks and other nonsense; one reply referenced the Reflecting Pool in DC, which is currently green with algae and has been compared to Mountain Dew.

Officials have been pouring bottles of hydrogen peroxide into the pool to try to kill the algae, which likely formed in part due to new blue paint applied to the bottom that is reportedly flaking and peeling less than two weeks after being painted. The White House has also shared other video game–themed posts, including Persona and Call of Duty memes.
