Which faction should you choose in Gothic Remake?

You can only join one faction in Gothic Remake, but you can still visit the others and complete some quests. You’ll continue to receive free daily items like the Old Camp’s ragout or the Swamp Camp’s swampweed, so joining a camp isn’t total exile. All three factions are rough characters, so the decision often comes down to which one seems least nasty or whose theme you prefer: hierarchical soldiers, thieves and mercs, or cultists.

Your choice mainly affects early quests and rewards. The mission to deliver a message to the fire mages can be handled by rising through the Old Camp to reach the castle, by becoming a messenger for the New Camp’s water mages, or by serving as an envoy for the Swamp Camp.

Joining a camp will automatically forfeit some quests — for example, joining the New Camp can cause Casting Shadows and Out of Sight to fail — but the main storyline remains similar.
