What the New Kingdom Hearts IV Trailer Reveals

The new Kingdom Hearts IV trailer lays out a basic premise: a hooded figure in an Organization 13 cloak says they were transported to a new world and brought the darkness with them. That darkness manifests as Heartless, which Sora and his allies will confront. The world shown is Quadratum, presented in a more realistic style than past Kingdom Hearts locales, and while only Quadratum appears in the trailer, Sora may still visit other settings — possibly reaching Disney-style worlds through a dreamlike trance or by simply turning on a computer.

Alongside Sora, Donald, and Goofy, the trailer introduces several familiar and obscure faces. A blonde figure matching Luxord appears; the redhead is Strelitzia, whose backstory is tied to a 2013 Japan-only browser game and a movie bundled with Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue.

The masked man Vali also originates from that browser game.
